Discharge papers state he was born in Huntingdon County, PA

Note

William, at age 51, and his sons Wilson, Austin A., and James Riley all served in the Civil War. William served the 181st Regiment, 20th Pa. Calvaryand was discharged from the Union Forces on July 13, 1865 at Cloudsmill, Virginia. He had enlisted at Chambersburg, Pa. on February 18,1864.

William and Nancy settled in Franklin County, Pa. where they raised eight children. Both are buried at the German Reform Cemetery at Fannettsburg, Franklin County, Pa.
