Note

From the notes of Lucille (Mort) Carberry of Baltimore, Md. - There cannot be any true history found on the Mort family until around the early 1800's. It is recorded in the Pa. Archives and the History of Fulton County that Mathias Morte was a resident of Taylor Township in 1852. Spelled Mort with an "e" on the end (Morte) and Mathias spelled with two t's (Matthias).

Lucille (Mort) Carberry states: Mathias married a full blooded Indian woman in 1803. This differs from German Church Records Volume 8 translated by Frederick Weiser shows Elizabeth (of John Mort) intermarrying with Matthias Mort (of Peter Mort). This is further shown in Maryland State Archives, Annapolis, Frederick County Equity Case 213, petition of Geroge Byarly concerning the Estate of John Mort. She had two boys, Abraham in 1803 and William in 1813. Son Abraham married a Hershey and they are buried at Clear Ridge Cemetery near the M.E. Church. After death of his first wife, Abraham married Rebecca Woods on September 17, 1826. Abraham and Rebecca had five children. Mathias date of birth appears to be accurately recorded as March 19, 1784 but the location is not clear. It is found to be Frederick County, Md. and also stated as in Leitersburg, Washington County, Md.

Note

Mathias Mort (#3) of Peter Mort "intermarried" with Elizabeth Mort of John Mort.
