Death | The Mort Family Story Text: December 23, 1918
Allen A. Mort died yesterday at his home in Fannettsburg, Pa., from a complication of diseases, after a 3 week illness, aged 79 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was a member of the Reformed Church, and a Civil War veteran, having served with the 77th Penna. Volunteers. He is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters: William, of Fannettsburg; John, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Florence Kent, of Fannettsburg; and Mrs. Margaret Diehl, of Waynesboro. |

Note | Enlisted in the Union Forces of the U.S. Army in February 1862 at Chambersburg, and served in Company A, 77th Pa. Regiment Infantry. His company fought at Shiloh where many members were deployed as "sharpshooters". He was wounded in battle at Battle Creek, Tn, Taken prisioner, where he was oneo of only seven survivors out of 67 from his Company. He was honorably discharged at Harrisburg, Pa in January 1864 with a Certificate of Disablility. |
