Note | Jo Smeal to Brenda Hartzell 21 June 2010: "When GGandma lived with us, it was only a short time during a summer. She had been living with another relative. I believe a Zeller's family previous. When she left our house she went to live with Uncle August Comp. I remember she was thin. Also, I remember she had soap powder and I thought it was great to see all the bubbles. I don't know what my Mother used to do wash clothes, but probably bar soap. Also I think she may have had asthma. She had some kind of cigarettes which she smoked. She would sit under a shade tree and smoke which was strange to me because I had never seen a woman smoke cigarettes back then. The only woman I had seen smoke was Mrs. Hower who smoked a pipe sometimes." Eleanora Beam to Brenda Hartzell 24 June 2010: "When she came to visit she came with a trunk and was not maternal. On a day when I was good she took me into her room and showed me her 'laying out clothes' (burial clothing). They smelled of moth balls." |
