Note | According to "Mort History" as written by Lucille (Mort) Carberry, Mathias Mort (I) was born early 1720's in Germany and along with his son Mathias Mort (II), also born in German about 1740, immigrated to America aboout 1750. In the book, "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" by Strausberger, Vol. 1, page 439 listed Mathias Morte (Mattheus Marte) as arriving on "Ship Two Brothers", Thomas Arnot, Captain from Rotterdam arriving in Philadelphia, Pa on Tuesday, August 28, 1750. The boy was 10 years old. They settled in Cumberland County, now part of Lancaster County. The eldest Mathias Morte died in 1757. In 1760 the younger Mathias went to Maryland and bought several acres of land in Frederick County. Here he built a small plantation called "Little Pipe Creek". This farm may be foound just off Rt.194 south of Tannytown, Md. Mathias Morte (II) married Elizabeth in 1760 and raised a large family. |
